The iconic 'Broads One Design' was concieved in 1900 by members of the Royal Norfolk & Suffolk Yacht club who sought a class of yacht that was easily handled, of simple sail plan, devoid of exaggerated features and capable of racing at sea as well as in inland waterways.
Naval architect Linton Hope was approached and the class was born.
Initially, five were commissioned from the Burnham Yacht Building Company and delivered in 1901 when the first official race was recorded.
Affectionatly known as 'Brown Boats' due to the varnished topsides, the class is still very active today and, despite advances in technology, remains true to the original concept although later craft were constructed using GRP.
This fine example has been fastidiously maintained throughout the years and had a major refurbishment between 1973 and 1988.
More recently, the hull was stripped back, recaulked and revarnished with the deck covering re-oiled.
