The beginning of this year at Boatshed Essex saw us launch our social media campaign. If you follow us on Twitter or Facebook you can easily keep up with our blog, follow sailing and boating news and check out The Boatshed Essex Daily: our online newspaper.

In local news, in March, Essex boys Dean and Craig Osler began sailing the 2000 miles around the British coastline raising money for Havens Hospices.

Here at Fambridge Yacht Haven we took part in the RYA Active Marina Programme and in May we enjoyed an open day to launch the summer’s events.

We’ve helped many happy customers to find a boat: Like Noel and Jayne who agreed to be interviewed on our blog after buying their Fletcher Arrowsport 16 and Colin Stracey (of East Coast Sailing School) who bought a Beneteau Oceanis 351 and says that sailing is the perfect antidote to stress.

Also this summer we released our free eBook: Boating in Essex, still available to download on the welcome tab of our Facebook page.

To celebrate London 2012 the RYA launched 'Push the Boat Out' day on 21st July and across the UK, clubs and centres held Sail for Gold events and activities to join in the fun of the Olympic Games.

It was an amazing summer for sailing events, from the Olympics and Paralympics, to the long running Cowes Week and our own local Essex Sailing Championships at Stone Sailing Club. Even the Jubilee had a boating theme with London enjoying the Queen’s flotilla.

In September the ‘Watch My Story’ campaign began recruiting for the next Clipper Round the World Yacht Race. There is no sailing experience necessary, you simply have to be over 18 and go through three weeks of intensive training.

Towards the end of the year on our blog we offered tips on waterside pubs in Essex and Christmas gift suggestions for the boaters in your life.

Here at Boatshed Essex we listed and sold a good number of boats and continue to list more. There are now over 495,300 registered customers on Boatshed.com and we look forward to selling more boats for boaters in 2013.

So if you haven’t already, join us on Facebook and Twitter, and keep up with boating and sailing in Essex. You can also get free updates from this blog by email.

Happy Christmas from all at Boatshed Essex, and we look forward to helping you if you’re buying or selling a boat in 2013.
